PhD Opportunities
We welcome enquiries from students interested in joining our team to embark on their PhD. We use a ‘supervisory team’ model, enabling our students to benefit from the range of expertise within our team (or involving others, where appropriate). This list details the potential lead supervisors for each topic, with whom we advise you make first contact for further information. If you have a research interest that falls within our areas of expertise, but is not listed here we would still be happy to hear from you.

- Professor Nikos Ntoumanis: Basic research with emphasis on theories of motivation, self-regulation, and goal striving; Promoting physical activity and less sedentary behaviour in youth during physical education classes and during leisure time; Anti-doping in sport; Behaviour change interventions; Weight management, self-control and dietary temptations
- Professor Cecilie Thogersen-Ntoumani: Motivation and health behaviours during key life transitions (e.g., retirement, older age, women undergoing the menopausal transition); Workplace health interventions; Motivation, well-being and the environment; Body image and weight loss.
- Assoc/Professor Daniel Gucciardi: Sport and performance psychology with a focus on personal (e.g., mental toughness) and contextual (e.g., stressors) factors; Examinations of resilience with non-clinical (e.g., athletes) or clinical populations (e.g., mental illness); Sport-based life skills programs for disadvantaged youth.
- Dr Eleanor Quested: Promoting physical activity and healthy eating among sports fans; adaptations of the Aussie-FIT program for other populations, health and well-being among dancers; physical activity and weight loss contagion effects.
